That’s a photo of me, hard at work in my classroom.

It was while I was teaching fourth grade that a friend convinced me to send a story I had written to a local publisher. To my surprise, the editor wanted to buy it, and in 1988 my first book, A Christmas Guest, was published.

Since then I have written or illustrated over twenty-five books, including picture books, puzzle books, craft books, and just recently, my first book for young adults.

Even though I visit many schools each year to talk about my books, I am no longer a regular classroom teacher, but work fulltime as an author and illustrator. I live in White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

When I’m not working on a new book, I love entering contests, solving puzzles, orienteering, traveling, and carving pumpkins. And of course I love to read!
